A JCD bulldozer and earth movers were being used to dig a borewell parallel to the one Vandana has fallen into. After that a tunnel some 5-feet long would have to be dug to connect the two wells - a crucial task fraught with risk since the tunnel would have to bear the weight of the huge column of soil above and could easily collapse.
