Performance-linked salaries opposed by the Left

The United Progressive Alliance government's suggestion to introduce performance linked salaries for government employees, faced considerable opposition from the Left-backed trade unions. The unions said that such a move would affect the interests of employees at lower levels of the hierarchy.
