The Sensex had almost touched the 18,000 mark when it rose to 17,953.07 this morning. It plunged to 17,288.41 this afternoon, netting a loss of around 40 points following a severe bout of profit taking in frontline stocks. On account of strong buying in several blue chips, the index regained some lost points and rose to 17,622.13, thus gaining 1.69% or 293.51 points over its previous closing figur
