The United Progressive Alliance-Left candidate Hamid Ansari has been elected as the 13th vice-president of India. Ansari defeated the National Democratic Alliance candidate Najma Heptulla and the Third Front candidate Rashid Masood in the vice-presidential elections. Ansari got 455 votes whereas Heptulla got 222.
