India's Sania Mirza defeated eighth-seeded Dinara Safina of Russia 6-1, 6-2 in the third round of the San Diego Open. She will now face Maria Sharapova in the quarter finals. Sharapova beat Tatiana Golovin 6-0, 6-3.
