Following a report on the "Plight of Indian Women Deserted by NRI Husbands" a Parliamentary committee has recommended the enactment of uniform personal laws for all religions on matrimonial issues, besides asking for compulsory registration of all marriages irrespective of religion. The laws should be uniform on grounds of marriage/divorce, maintenance, property rights and related issues.

Survey reveals Nepali girls' plight in India : HIV

A study by the Harvard School of Public Health has found that nearly 40 percent of Nepalese women and girls who have been rescued afte rbeing forced into prostitution in India are HIV positive. India has around 2.5 million people who are suffering from HIV/AIDS, out of which about 40 percent are women.
