The Intel chairman Craig Barrett said that India has an excellent oppurtunity to become one of the manufacturing sites of Intel. Barrett added that India’s physical infrastructure did not come in the way of Intel’s investment decisions in the country. As of now, the company will now focus on engineering and on developing its software centre in Bangalore

The Prime Minister on Tuesday made a surprise visit to the Indian National Army memorial at Salimgarh fort, which is a part of the sprawling Red Fort complex. Singh, deliberately came at short notice to ensure that officials didn’t get too much time to spruce things up and see first hand how the Heritage monument was being maintained.

ICICI bank, in a bid to expand its presence in rural areas is planning tieups with local partners. It has begun to issue smart cards to it's rural customers. ICICI's rural business is worth Rs 20,000 crore, with three million customers, it has almost doubled in the past few years.

Rushdie, who has a Fatwa issued against him for his book 'The Satanic Verses' by the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, has lived in hiding for a decade.

Amanullah Aman, who was a state minister for labour in former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's cabinet, has been sentenced to 13 years in jail for amassing wealth through illegal means, by an anti-corruption court in Bangladesh. The court also handed a three-year sentence to Amanullah Aman’s wife for giving false information on their personal wealth to the anti-corruption commission.

A group of hardline Pakistani clerics said that they had bestowed a religious title on Osama bin Laden in response to a British knighthood for author Salman Rushdie. Osama bin Laden was given the title “Saifullah”, or sword of Allah, by the Pakistan Ulema Council, in response to the knighthood awarded to Rushdie last week for services to literature.

Prince William’s finances will receive a major boost on his 25th birthday this week when he becomes legally entitled to the income accrued on the £6.5 million left to him in his mother’s will.Prince William will have unrestricted access to between £250,000 and £300,000 a year, investment experts estimate.

Fourteen bogies of a superfast train got unhitched from its engine last night, ran on and jumped rails but did not tip over totally on their sides, thanks to earthen embankments flanking the tracks.
Three passengers in the Howrah-bound 2659 Gurudev Express died in the freak crash but almost 500 in the derailed coaches providentially survived with minor cuts and bruises.

Life term for killer extortionists

Five extortionists were sentenced to life in jail today for killing a 24-year-old from Howrah who had raised his voice against them. Joy Mukherjee (in picture), a resident of Dharsa in Jagachha and an agent of a private bank, was murdered on the night of October 19, 2005.
