The Empire State Building which is a popular landmark in New York will be lit green from Friday to Sunday in celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. Till date, the world famous building has been lit in traditional colours only on the occasion of Christmas and the Jewish festival Hannukah. However, this year onwards the monument will be lit green to celebrate Eid.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of guerrilla leader Ernesto "Che" Guevara's capture and killing in Bolivia, thousands of Cubans gathered in a memorial rally in the central Cuban city of Santa Clara. The ceremony was held on Monday at the mausoleum where Guevara's remains were placed.

3,000 workers trapped in gold mine : S Africa

Almost 3000 miners were trapped more than a mile underground when a column of water pipes fell down on an elevator shaft causing extensive damages in a mine in South Africa.
