Gitanjali Gems is planning to buy another leading jewellery retailer having over 100 outlets across the country for around US $100mn. A Mumbai-based boutique investment bank, Keynote is advising the company. The firm is planning to raise capital for its proposed acquisition and domestic expansion and wants to raise US $100mn through a global depository receipt (GDR) issue.

Rumours have resurfaced that Rediff is on the block, sending the company’s shares up during trading, before giving up some gains. Analyst Ashish Thadhani of Gilford Securities called the company an attractive target in theory, but denied that any deal is imminent.

Bharti Airtel Ltd, India's top mobile services firm, is curently holding talks to hive off a 10% stake in its mobile telecoms tower company for about $1.1 billion. According to the Economic Times, Bharti is neogtiating with Singapore's state-owned Temasek Holdings and Warburg Pincus to sell a stake in Bharti Infratel.

M&M to sell Nissan small cars?

The utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M)is currently in an advanced stage of negotiations with the Nissan Motor Company for forging a marketing tie-up to sell the latter's small cars. Nissan has indicated that it plans to bring some of its existing small cars to India and M&M may be keen to establish a marketing joint venture with Nissan.
