Durga Puja is like a real life cinema, thinks noted film director Gautam Ghose.
"Durga Puja has everything larger-than-life about it. Ido

The Delhi culture season is back

And the two most consistent post-Independence culture traditions of the Capital have been the Krishnalila and Ramlila ballets staged faithfully by the Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra. Shows may come and shows may go, but they, like the grand old epics, go on forever, thank God.

The play staged by the late Toni Patel combined Parsi and Mumbaiyya life. The stage setting was reali

This week we continue where we left off last week — talking of Hamida Begum, who built the Humayun’s tomb for her husband and brought 300 Arab builders with her from Mecca. She commissioned a Persian architect Ghiyas, who is credited with providing India with the first dome in the Persian style — a dome that is a complete semi-circle.
It is not clear whether the Arabs were invited by him or broug

"The new Chelsea" is what south Mumbai's burgeoning art district is being termed as. While that statement may be premature and perhaps a tad optimistic, there is certainly a lot of exciting progress that is taking place. Emerging artists, in particular, may be the biggest beneficiaries as the mushrooming of trendy new art galleries provides them with a platform they didn't have earlier.

When Taimur the Lame invaded Delhi in September 1398 it was time for the Navratas preceding Dussehra. In those days the Kalkaji mandir and the one at Jhandewalan were the two highly venerated centres.

Long before Pie in the Sky became a hit song in the early part of the 20th century, people only knew about the four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie! The nursery rhyme goes on to say that when the pie was opened, the birds began to sing, much to the amusement of the royal diner. This is not just an empty tale but something which was part of entertainment in feudal societies, both in the West a

This very evening at 6.30 pm at the India International Centre, where else, you can experience “a romantic nature, a clear articulation, a beautiful sound”, as vouched for by La Presse, Montreal, from young Canadian pianist Mathieu Gaudet. He’s on a seven-concert tour of India, his first appearance in Asia.
