MIM issues death threats against Nasreen

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has threatened to behead Taslima Nasreen, if she were to ever return to the city of Hyderabad. The controversial Bangladeshi author was attacked by the legislators and cadres of the MIM earlier. The MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi claimed that anyone who commits blasphemy deserved to be beheaded.

Cleric issues fatwa to blacken Taslima's face

A fatwa has been issued against controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen by a Muslim cleric Noorul Rahman Barkati. The cleric issued the fatwa to blacken the face of the author and also demanded that she be immediately expelled from India. Barkati also claimed that he had offered a reward of Rs 50,000 for anybody who would blacken Taslima's face.

Dera evasive following murder, rape charges

Modi govt red-faced as Governor returns Religion Bill

The Gujarat Freedom of Religion Bill of 2003 has been returned to the Assembly for reconsideration by the Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma . The Bill was returned on grounds that it violated Article 25 of the Indian Constitution which guarantees all citizens the right to practice, promote and propagate religion of their choice.

Dera chief charged in murder and rape cases

Lal Masjid closed indefinitely after suicide attack

The Lal Masjid in Pakistan has been sealed off by the Pakistani government following a suicide attack which resulted in the death of 15 people during clashes between Islamic extremists and security forces. Poliemen have set up new checkpoints and cordoned off the area around the Masjid compound. "The mosque will now remain closed for an indefinite period": the Interior Ministry spokesman said.

Guruvayoor temple amends dress code for women

'Govt desecrated temple by taking away sacred bull' : Temple authorities

American to build Indian 'Vedic Centre'

An American architect, Alfred J Valerio, who has lived in India for over 30 years wants to build a 'Vedic Centre' in the US, on the lines of the one being constructed more than 100 km from Kolkata.Work on the $40-million project will commence in December, in the Southern Tier area of New York State.
