UN inspectors to visit Japanese radiation site

The Japanese government has said that it would permit a team of UN inspectors to visit its largest nuclear plant in hopes of easing international concern after an earthquake caused a radiation leak. A 6.8 Richter-scale earthquake on July 16 caused a fire at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant, triggering fears of a nuclear hazard.

Mild quake felt in North India

A mild earthquake was felt in certain parts of North India early Monday morning. The quake with the epicentre at Uttarkashi in Uttrakhand, measured 4.9 on the Richter scale. The tremors were also felt in Delhi, Meerut and Haridwar.

The Italian Health Ministry claims that freeing the neck of a tight-fitting tie immediately cools the body temperature by 2°C to 3°C. Hence, in a bid to to turn down the use of air conditioning on hot summer days, thereby saving energy and reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, the Ministry has advocated loosening the neck tie.

Quake hit South-West Bay of Bengal

The south-west Bay of Bengal region was hit by an earthquake of moderate intensity this morning, the Meteorological Department said. The temblor measuring 5.4 on the Richter Scale shook the region at 9:57 a.m. The epicentre of the quake was located at 6.6 north on the latitude and 84.5 east of the longitude.

23 killed in flash floods : Kerala
