On the basis of reports stating that Essel Propack plans to buy the packaging unit of Alcan Inc, the shares of the laminated tubes and packaging manufacturer rose by over 9% to Rs68. The scrip has touched an intra-day high of Rs69 and a low of Rs64 and has recorded volumes of over 1,00,000 shares on NSE.

US says that deportation is Pak's internal affair

The United States maintained a neutral stand vis-a-vis the recent developments in Pakistan saying that the deportation of the former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif was an internal affair of the nation. However, the US added that is regretted the decision of the Pakistani government which was contrary to a verdict of the country's Supreme Court.

The former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who was deported to Jeddah shortly after arriving at Pakistan blamed President Gen Pervez Musharraf's 'ego and stubborness' for not being able to stay in his own country. "It is only Musharraf's ego and his stubborness that is standing in my way," Sharif told a TV Channel after arriving at the Islamabad Airport.

A police team which had gone to a village at Hardoi in UP, in order to arrest a criminal, was beaten up by the villagers, who mistook them for 'dacoits'. According to sources, the team led by in-charge of Kotwali Dehat, was severely beaten up, resulting in injuries to several policemen.
