The Bangalore police foiled a plot to trigger explosions in Bangalore with the arrest of a four-member gang who planned to trigger explosions in certain parts of the city. A revolver, ten detonators, 20 gelatine sticks and some lethal weapons have been recovered from the gang.

UN provides relief to quake-hit Peru

The United Nations is rushing food and assistance to Peru, which was devastated by a a powerful earthquake yesterday, which killed more than 500 people. The UN agencies such as UN Development Programme released two grants totalling $US 200,000 to provide immediate relief. Also the UN World Food Programme said it would provide food worth $US 500,000 to the victims.

India army to induct laser dazzlers, to fight militancy

The Indian army will soon induct portable non-lethal laser dazzlers that can stun and blind their opponents. The weapon will mainly be used by soldiers engaged in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and the north-east. According to army sources, the laser dazzlers will be inducted into the army possibly by 2008.
