Bengal Chief Minster Buddhadeb Bhattacharejee on Tuesday said he regretted saying justifying Nandigram violence and saying that those opposed to land acquisition in Nandigram have been paid back in the same coin by CPM activists.
“I had said the people have been paid back in the same coin. I should not have said it. I want peace now,” he said.

Australian leg-spinner Stuart MacGill is all set to undergo a knee surgery, which will make him unavailable for the home series against India starting next month.

local youth risked his life and defused a powerful bomb planted on a roadside here by pulling out the wires, well before the police arrived at the spot. Several lives would have been lost if the bomb had exploded, the police said.
A police spokesman on Monday said they were informed by locals about the presence of an unidentified sack lying on a pavement near the city's Bamunimaidan area.

A phenomenal security ring has been clamped in and around Kolkata after an e-mail threatened to trigger a blast during the India-Pakistan Test match commencing at the Eden Gardens from November 30.

Kirsten met the Coach Selection committee comprising of Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and also BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah in New Delhi on Monday evening. Former Australian coach John Buchanan is also said to be in the reckoning, although Kirsten has emerged as the clear front-runner.

A bomb exploded near the official residence of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, killing at least two people and leaving several injured.
The explosion occurred in a wagon near Ayub Park as Musharraf was chairing a meeting of the chief ministers and governors at Army House in the high-security area of the garrison city.
