Indian Rupee falls from its high

The Indian Rupee fell from it's 9-1/2 year peaks on account of a weak Asian market and dollar buying by state-run banks. The Indian Rupee gained about 3 percent since a U.S. rate cut last month which sparked off a strong rally in the Indian stock market. At 9:51 a.m., the partially convertible rupee was at 39.35/36 per dollar as compared to Thursday's close of 39.30/3050 per dollar.

Markets open in the red

The Indian stock markets opened 0.1 percent down on Friday, following losses in ICICI Bank and on concerns that the market may have overshot after hitting 15 record highs in 16 sessions. At 9:59 a.m., the benchmark Sensex was down 78.25 points or 0.42 percent, while the NSE Nifty fell 0.54 percent at 5,495.15.

The shares of Koutons Retail India Ltd listed on the stock markets at a premium of 24% to the offer price. The stock opened at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) at Rs515 as against the issue price of Rs415 per share and at 10:14 a.m., the scrip was trading at Rs595.60 after being as high as Rs649 amid volume of 1.29mn shares.
