The Pakistani skipper Shoaib Malik received flak for his comments during the post-match ceremony wherein he thanked 'Muslims' worldwide for their support and apologised for losing the match. The mother of Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, Shamim Bano expressed her surprise at Malik's comments. She said, "Shoaib must have said that for his own countrymen, how can he speak for all the Muslims of the world?

The findings of a poll conducted to select the captain of the Indian team has shown Saurav Ganguly in a positive light with an overall 55.6 per cent of the voters choosing the Prince of Calcutta as a favourite for the post of skipper.
