Kaveri Seeds lists at a premium of 54%

The shares of Kaveri Seed Company Ltd. - a company manufacturing hybrid seeds - rose almost 54% as the company made its debut on the stock market. The shares which were offered at Rs170 during the IPO, opened at Rs201.15 on the BSE and later was quoting at Rs255.15 after touching a high of Rs262. The volumes touched 2.61mn shares on BSE.

The stock markets are experiencing choppy trades in the morning session following weak cues from the US and the Asian markets. Among the Sensex stocks, index heavyweights such as ICICI Bank, HDFC, Infosys and SBI are the major laggards. At 10:00 am (IST), the BSE 30-share Sensex is down 116 points to 17,730 and NSE Nifty has fallen by 27 points to 5,183.

Most traders on Dalal Street have been unnerved by the volatility in the markets. The increased volatility has resulted in ‘put’ options having increased to 38% on Wednesday from 26% on Monday as investors seek to protect their investments. The Nifty put options with a strike price of 5,000 was seen fluctuating between Rs 58 and Rs 147, only to close at Rs 75 on Wednesday.
