South Asia flood toll crosses 2000

The death toll in the flooding in India, Bangladesh and Nepal has crossed 2000, with the Indian home ministry's disaster management divison reporting 1521 deaths. The toll in Bangladesh has risen to 346 while in Kathmandu 95 people have been reported dead.

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has threatened to behead Taslima Nasreen, if she were to ever return to the city of Hyderabad. The controversial Bangladeshi author was attacked by the legislators and cadres of the MIM earlier. The MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi claimed that anyone who commits blasphemy deserved to be beheaded.

Parliament pays tribute to Chandrashekhar

The Parliament has paid a tribute to the former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar with both the houses adjourning for the day as a mark of respect to the former PM and six other ministers who recently passed away.
