NIIT up 4.5 p.c. on stake sale reports

The share price of NIIT Technologies have surged by over 4.5% to Rs349 on the basis of reports that private equity firms Carlyle Group and TPG Inc. may pick up a stake in the New Delhi- based software company. The NIIT Technologies scrip has touched an intra-day high of Rs283 and a low of Rs340 and has recorded volumes of over 4,00,000 shares on NSE.

Sports channel Neo Sports Broadcast Pvt Ltd has announced a tie up with Digital Entertainment Network for ground distribution of its channels- Neo Sports and Neo Sports Plus. Digital Entertainment Network will primarily focus on Delhi and NCR region for the distribution. Following this deal, Neo Sports will be able touch 100% of Network 18’s cable universe in the region.

In a bid to protect Indian women from exploitation, the authorities have restricted Indian women under the age of 30, who have not completed their high school from working abroad. The Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said that as per the new measures all the employment contracts would be drawn between the worker and employer and not with the recruiting agent.

'93 blasts case: Freed to pay for judgement copies

The 23 people acquitted in the 1993 blasts case by the TADA court will have to pay about Rs 24,000 for certified copies of the judgement -which consists of 6000 pages- whereas the convicts will get them free of cost. The TADA court is scheduled to hand over copies of its judgement to the 100 convicts beginning today.

Wen Mengjie, a former director of the information technology department of the Agricultural Bank of China was executed for taking bribes and embezzling US$ 1.97 million. Mengjie was found guilty of taking kickbacks to the extent of US$ 1.4 million during the purchase of equipment and software for the bank and was also accused of embezzling US$ 5,70,000 from the state-run bank.

Spiders weave a giant web : Texas

Entomologists studying spiders have claimed that a variety of spider species built on one another's work to create a sprawling web that has formed a blanket over hundreds of yards of trees and shrubs at a park in North Texas. The heavy rains earlier this summer resulted in creating prime feeding conditions for the spiders, thus encouraging their activity.
