HDFC rises 1.4%

On the basis of reports that HDFC has hiked its stake in its joint venture with Standard Life by 10% for a sum of Rs1.8bn, the share price of the private sector bank rose by 1.4% to Rs2502. The HDFC scrip has touched an intra-day high of Rs2519 and a low of Rs2456 and has recorded volumes of over 64,000 shares on NSE.

Reliance down 0.3 %

There were reports that Reliance has sought a three year drilling holiday from exploring nine NELP fields due to shortage of drilling rigs. The scrip was down 0.3% to Rs2415. It touched an intra-day high of Rs2425 and a low of Rs2197 and has recorded volumes of over 2,00,000 shares on NSE.

Economy to grow by 9% in '07: S&P

Standard and Poor's, the international ratings agency, said that it expects the Indian economy to grow by 9 per cent in the current year while next year expectation is 8.8 per cent. In a report released, S & P's said that while Indian interest rates were clearly peaking, the rupee was likely to end the year at 40.5 against the dollar.

Marion Jones returns Olympic medals

Former Olypmic sprinter Marion Jones has relinquished the five Olympic medals she won at the 2000 Sydney Games, thus turning over the three gold and two bronze medals over to the US Olympic Committee (USOC). Jones also accepted a two-year ban after admitting to the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
