School student dies after being assaulted by teacher

Arpit, a 17-year old school student of Udaipur, died after allegedly being beaten by his teacher. The teenager's father has filed an FIR that alleges that his son was badly beaten by the school teacher on July 26 and his death was a result of the assault.

A CBI raid at the residence of Delhi Assembly canteen-owner and one-time autorickshaw driver Ashok Malhotra, recovered more than 50 cars and 10 motorcycles,all bearing special VIP number plates. According to CBI sources, over 5,000 land documents were also recovered in the raid. The raid indicates a multi-crore scam that could involve politicians.

The toll of fatal accidents involving Delhi's privately operated Blueline buses has reached 63 this year, with another person being crushed to death under the wheels of a Blueline bus. Inspite of repeated assurances by the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit of phasing out the rogue buses, the casualties continue to go up everyday.

A suicide bomber struck a police training college -when police recruits were gathered for their morning drill - in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) killing eight persons and injuring 23. The TADA court conducting the trial of the 93 Mumbai Blasts, awarded the death sentence to three persons who planted explosives at various locations in this city. Judge P D Kode sentenced Abdul Gani Ismail Turk, Pervez Shaikh and Mohammed Mushtaq Tarani to death for their role in the blasts.
