The Independence Day functions in Gujarat were marked by two BJP leaders attempting to settle scores with their rivals. While the Gujaart Chief Minister Narendra Modi targeted the Centre for not expediting the clearance of land rights for tribals, his rival Keshubhai Patel, addressing a gathering of largely BJP dissidents in Surat, referred to Modi as “indisciplined” and “unjust”.

Four young boys in the capital met a tragic end on Independence day as they were mowed down by a train while chasing a kite over the railway tracks. Acording to the police the boys were between 12 and 16 years in age.

Bilal Abdulla, an Iraqi doctor,who was a passenger of the explosives-laden jeep, allegedly driven by the Indian Doctor, Kafeel Ahmed into the Glasgow Airport last Saturday, has been charged with "maliciously" conspiring to cause explosions. Abdulla has became the first person to be charged over the botched car bomb attacks on London and Glasgow Airport.
