Nifty reaches all time high - 5000

The 50-share benchmark index of the NSE, closely followed the Sensex and reached the 5000 mark for the first time. The NIFTY took 204 sessions since December 14, 2006, to make the 25% upmove from 4000 to 5000, while the Sensex rose 27% in the same period. On Thursday, the Nifty was up 60.05 points or 1.22% at 5,000.55, an all time closing high.

India backs Palestine

In a meeting between the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in New York, Mukherjee spoke about India's committement towards the "historic and consistent" support for the Palestinian people's struggle for a homeland of their own so that they can take their "rightful" place in the comity of nations.

Bhutto admits to meeting Musharraf

Benazir Bhutto, the former Pakistan Premier admitted to a secret meeting with the Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf but she was pessimistic on the prospect of reaching a power-sharing deal with the leader. Bhutto said that she plans to return to Pakistan next month to challenge the President in the general elections.

Hannah Foster case: Kohli extradited to UK

Kohli, whose extradition to the UK was cleared by a Delhi court on June 8, was handed over to a three-member police team from Britain this morning by officials of the Tihar jail, where he had been lodged.

An expose by a News channel,'Star News' showed Himachal Pradesh Transport Minister G S Bali dancing and drinking with women at his birthday party. The channel alleges the women were 'call girls', however the minister refuted the claims, saying that the party featured his family members including his son, daughter and others. Bali said: "I am going to resign later this night in public interest.

4 tourists among 6 killed in Srinagar blast

Dr Haneef Mohammed, who has been discharged of all terror charges and released by the Australian authorities, arrived in Bangalore airport on Sunday night. Haneef who arrived by a Thai Airways flight TG 325 from Brisbane via Bangkok, reaching Bangalore at 9.35 pm (IST). Haneef, was accopanied by his relative Imran Siddiqui and lawyer Peter Russo.

'Red Alert' in Pakistan, fears suicide bombing

The Pakistani government has sounded a "Red Alert" in the light of reports that around 600 suicide bombers are holed up in madrassas and mosques within and around the limits of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The governement has also asked security personnels to avoid gathering in groups and not to wear uniform in public.
