Media baron Rupert Murdoch is reportedly in talks with Internet major Yahoo! to merge with his MySpace online social networking site.
Murdoch's audacious move is aimed at scuppering Microsoft's attempt to buy the Yahoo!, says The Telegraph.

Internet giant, Yahoo Inc will be shutting down Yahoo Photos-its first-generation photo storage site- and will ask its users to migrate to Flickr, which is Yahoo's Web 2.0 photo sharing site. Yahoo also will offer its patrons the option of loading their photos on PhotoBucket and other photo printing and storage site such as Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly Inc or Snapfish.

Mobile phone manufacturer, Nokia recently announced that it would incorporate Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Live suite of Web services, like e-mail and instant messaging, to many of its cell phones. Internet companies such as Yahoo, Google Inc. are competing for space on a handset's main screen, so users can access their online services without having to go through the phone's Web browser.

According to a survey conducted by JupiterResearch, Google was the top online brand name with nearly 36 percent of US consumers, Yahoo found favour with 32 percent, whereas MySpace is a strong contender with 32 percent among young Internet users.
