The BCCI’s reluctance to involve John Emburey in the selection process, as well as the team’s hectic schedule, prompted the Englishman to “pull out” of the race to become India’s next cricket coach. The 54-year-old former England off-spinner was also unhappy over the one-year contract, considering India’s list of fixtures.

Former Board of Control for Cricket in India president Raj Singh Dungarpur termed the Board's handling of the coach's selection as "unprofessional". "It was the BCCI's mistake to prematurely announce [Graham] Ford's name. It was very unprofessional," he said.

Middlesex director of cricket John Emburey said on Tuesday he is not interested in becoming India coach despite being interviewed for the job last week.Kent's South African director of cricket Graham Ford turned the job down on Monday but Emburey said it has not been offered to him.

Graham Ford’s doosra has left the Indian cricket establishment stumped, and John Emburey has added salt to the wounds by declining the offer to coach India too. Red-faced officials will still be scurrying around for excuses and explanations, but harsh as it may sound, the simple truth is that the Board of Control for Cricket in India got what it deserved.

The BCCI is now wondering why Ford said yes to the job when he didn't intend to coach Team India in the first place.But sources tell NDTV that the former South African Coach changed his mind only after seeing the way the entire selection process was conducted by the BCCI.Ford wasn't happy with the late start to the meeting and the attitude of the former cricketers in the selection committee.

Refusing to specify any reason for omitting Australian Dav Whatmore from contention for Team India coach's post, the Cricket Board today said it was a collective decision taken by the Search Committee. Asked why Whatmore was ruled out for the post, BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said, "it was the committee's decision. There are no grounds or reasons to it."
