The former Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly was named 'Best Captain' in 75 years of Test cricket at the 10th Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence. Ganguly beat the likes of the late C.K. Nayudu, late Vinoo Mankad, Nari Contractor, Chandu Borde, Ajit Wadekar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Viswanath, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to be selected as the best Indian skipper.

The findings of a poll conducted to select the captain of the Indian team has shown Saurav Ganguly in a positive light with an overall 55.6 per cent of the voters choosing the Prince of Calcutta as a favourite for the post of skipper. Dhoni came in second with a total of 23.9 per cent overall and Sachin got the lowest percent of votes at 20.5 per cent.
