According to a 20-minute audiotape recording from Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden’s deputy, the Al-Qaeda is preparing to retaliate against the UK for awarding a knighthood to author Salman Rushdie. The message was posted on a website often used by Islamic militants, warned of a “very precise response”.

A strike has been declared in Srinagar on Friday to protest against the knighthood being conferred on Indian born author Salman Rushdie.Although business establishments were closed and public transport stayed off the roads, the strike which was called by armed militant groups and separatist leaders, was only partially successful with private transport vehicles and autorickshaws plying normally.
