MUMBAI: The rally in equities continued, showing no signs of weakness till now. With support from global indices, the market is expected to end the session in green with large-caps leading the rally, analysts said. At 11:45 am, the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was up 188 points or 3.82 per cent at 5117.65, making a high of 5130.10 after opening at 4944.65.

The Indian stock markets opened 0.1 percent down on Friday, following losses in ICICI Bank and on concerns that the market may have overshot after hitting 15 record highs in 16 sessions. At 9:59 a.m., the benchmark Sensex was down 78.25 points or 0.42 percent, while the NSE Nifty fell 0.54 percent at 5,495.15.

In the late afternoon trading session, the bulls gained momentum, even as the NSE Nifty hit the 5,500 figure for the first time following gains in the Auto, Metal and the Capital Good stocks. The Nifty stocks such as ONGC, Bharti Airtel, BHEL and Rcom were among the major gainers while Infosys, Satyam, Wipro and TCS were among the major losers.

Inspite of poor Q2 figures from Infosys, the markets have opened positively with the 30-share Sensex gaining 58 points to reach 18,708 and NSE Nifty rising by 17 points to cross 5,459. Index heavyweights like ICICI Bank, L&T, BHEL and HDFC Bank are the major gainers and have managed to hold the key indices from sliding.
