The Australian Federal Police are seeking legal advice as to whether the actions of Mohammed Haneef's lawyers -in releasing a transcript of a second police interview with Haneef - were inappropriate. Haneef's legal team earlier released a 378-page transcript of an interview with Brisbane police held on July 13.

The Law Council of Australia has said that the Federal Court's decision on the Mohammed Haneef case that the Government cannot cancel someone's visa on the basis of an innocent association would be the last word on the matter. The Council also slammed the use of "broad, unfettered" discretion to expel a person from the country.

The Australian Premier John Howard denied reports that he has pressurised the immigration minister into cancelling the visa of Mohammed Haneef or leaking information to the media in a bid to taint the image of the Indian doctor. Haneef was granted bail on Monday, however a few hours later his visa was revoked by mmigration Minister Kevin Andrews.

Haneef 'bails out' Australian police

Mohammad Haneef, who is being held in 'solitary confinement' by the Australian police for alleged terror links, has given a clean chit to the Australian police. Haneef told his lawyers that the reports claiming that the police tampered with his personal diary were false and the AFP officers had not done anything like that.

Mohammed Haneef, has filed an appeal against the Australian government's decision to cancel his visa and keep him behind bars. Haneef's solicitor Peter Russo declined to provide any details of the appeal, whose hearing could be more than a month away.The matter will be mentioned in the federal court in Brisbane later on Wednesday.

Haneef's case weakened by leak : Police

The leaking of a key document - containing the transcript of a police interview with Mohammed Haneef - to a newspaper, has weakened the prosecution's case against the Indian doctor, according to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner Mick Keelty. He also added that the police were probing whether the leak constituted an offence, such as contempt of court.
