Shopping malls with multiplexes and food courts are very popular in Bangalore but the the fatal fall of a boy in one of the malls recently has raised safety concerns. Recently six-year-old Aahan Bhandari, fell from the fourth floor of the Garuda Mall in the heart of the city on Sunday and died on the way to hospital.

Rajendra K Pachauri, chief of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that the shopping malls that are mushrooming in Indian cities and towns are 'environmentally disastrous'. Pachauri further added that India is not taking the threat posed by climate change seriously although there is an increasing awareness of its consequences amongst the citizens.

LuLu to open malls in India

The UAE-based retail major LuLu, which runs 58 stores in the Gulf, is all set to begin operations in India. As part of its expansion plan, it is gearing up to construct a huge mall in Kochi, besides it is conducting feasibility studies to open malls in other parts of the country as well.

They had become a craze with their swanky looks and dazzling displays in air conditioned comfort. With their mushrooming growth, however, the malls have lost their charm as a favourite destination for families and the Gen X, the parks having bounced back in favour.
