The high-profile IPL was spared a major embarrassment on Wednesday when the eight franchisees, who had initially refrained from bidding for the likes of Glenn McGrath, Michael Hussey, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Justin Langer and Shivnariane Chanderpaul, mopped up the left-overs at their base price.
Of the 79 players put up for auction, only two-Mohammad Yousuf and Ashwell Prince-were withdrawn.
