There are reports of swarms of locusts heading towards the Indian sub-continent. In a bid to monitor the locust activity the government has made special provisions, including setting up a field camp in Gujarat for intensive monitoring and undertaking control operations.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the UNO has asked India and Pakistan to take immediate steps to safeguard their crops, in the light of locust attacks. The organisation has warned that two swarms of locusts are headed for Indian sub-continent -- one from Somalia and the other from Oman and Yemen.
