Colombo: Sri Lanka will continue its military offensive with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and a ceasefire isn’t possible, the country’s President has said in response to demands by politicians in Tamil Nadu.
Mahinda Rajapaksa said the military offensive against the rebels in Kilinochchi would continue, announced the state-run Sri Lankan Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) on Thursday.

Heavy fighting broke out across Sri Lanka's northern area of Kilinochchi, leaving 37 Tamil Tiger rebels and six soldiers dead, the defence ministry said Wednesday.

A Sri Lanka navy patrol destroyed two Tamil Tiger boats, killing eight rebels on board, in a clash at sea off the island's northern Pooneryn region, the defence ministry said Tuesday.
