Citizens condemn arrest, torture of alleged Naxalites

A number of civil rights organisations, lawyers and individuals have protested the arrest and torture of Shridhar Srinivasan, Vernon Gonsalves and advocate K. D. Rao on suspicions of them having Naxalite links. Advocate and human rights activist Mihir Desai said the State was opposed to anyone who supported the poor and marginalised sections.

Amnesty International: Expresses concerned over Haneef's detention

The human rights group,Amnesty International has expressed its concerns over the prolonged detention of Indian doctor Mohamed Haneef, who has been held without charge for more than a week by Australian police in connection with their probe into the foiled UK terror plot. Canberra's anti-terror laws place no cap on the length of time a person could be held in custody.

International human rights activist of India, Mr. M K Paul has complained of human rights violations of Indian spies, who are languishing in Pakistan jails due to gross negligence by Indian government. Mr Paul said that the basic human rights of the spies such as right to life, right to liberty, right to live with dignity have been violated.
