According to highly classified intelligence documents, Dr Haneef Mohammed was regularly in contact with Islamic radicals who were under the surveillance of the British spy agency MI5. The documents reveal Haneef made contact using medical chat rooms, international phone cards and phone boxes. On the other hand, an Indian police intelligence alleged Haneef had links to al Qaeda.

Haneef to be questioned by Bangalore police

Following the release of a transcript of an online conversation between Haneef Mohammed and a relative, the Bangalore police have decided to intensify their investigation against the Bangalore-based doctor. Although no evidence has been found against Haneef, the police will call him for questioning.

According to the police transcripts, Mohammed Haneef, repeatedly tried calling the British police after the bungled bomb attacks in London and Glasgow. Haneef said that he wanted to inform the police that he had left a SIM card with a cousin who was implicated in the attacks.

Dr Haneef Mohammed, who returned to India, after terror charges were dropped against him, said that he wanted Australia to apologise to his "peace-loving country". Haneef said that: "I don't expect an apology from the Australian government or the authorities but I would appreciate if they apologise to my peace-loving country and citizens".

The Australian police said that the reason for the false charges levelled against Indian Doctor,Haneef Mohammed was due to wrong information received from British investigators. The British authorities informed their Australian counterparts that Haneef's 'SIM Card' was found in the jeep allegedly used by Kafeel Ahmed in the Glasgow failed bombing attempt.

The Australian Immigration Minister, Kevin Andrews said that he would not reinstate Haneef Mohammed's visa, which had been cancelled by him on character grounds. Although Haneef had been granted bail by a magistrate, his visa was revoked by Andrews on July 16 and he was detained by the authorities.
