The police have registered a case against a former Bharatiya Janata Party member of Parliament Ram Vilas Vedanti for allegedly issuing a 'fatwa' against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam patriarch and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. The case was registered against Vendanti on the basis of a complaint by one Dhananchezhian, who is a city resident.

Cleric issues fatwa to blacken Taslima's face

A fatwa has been issued against controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen by a Muslim cleric Noorul Rahman Barkati. The cleric issued the fatwa to blacken the face of the author and also demanded that she be immediately expelled from India. Barkati also claimed that he had offered a reward of Rs 50,000 for anybody who would blacken Taslima's face.

The prayer leader of Islamabad’s Lal Masjid, Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi,has issued a fatwa to kill Salman Rushdie, the India-born author who was recently knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. Ghazi said whoever kills Rushdie would secure a place in paradise. . He said: "Salman Rushdie deserves to be killed, and anyone who is in a position to do so must eliminate him physically.”
