'Train runs over two elephants' : Assam

A freight train ran over two elephants in a bird sanctuary in Assam, the train was derailed as a result. According to a wildlife official the incident occured between Azara and Kamakhya railway stations while a herd of 20-odd elephants was crossing the track. One of the elephants killed was a calf.

Two elephants went on a rampage and ran wild through villages in the remote northeastern state of Mizoram, killing eight people and injuring nine. The elephants also destroyed a number of houses. According to experts, a lack of work coupled with poor nutrition could have resulted in the elephants turning violent.
