The economy grew by 9.3 per cent during the April-June quarter of the current financial year. Although this figure is marginally less than 9.6 per cent recorded during comparable period last year, the economy has done commendably well as it comes on top of high 9.4 per cent growth recorded during 2006-07.

Having already overtaken Britain and France, the Chinese economy is all set to overtake Germany as the world's third-largest by the end of this year.
The Chinese economy grew at a very fast pace in the first half of 2007-- at 11.1 percent instead of 10.7 percent as per earlier forecasts -- to produce an economy worth 21.09 trillion yuan (2.65 trillion dollars).
