Although the Dera crisis has been defused, an atmosphere of uncertainty looms over the industry amid fears that it may cause a setback to investments in land-locked Punjab. The State is already grappling with the flight of industry to the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh in view of incentives offered to the entrepreneurs by the hill-state to the investors.

The 15-member "Khalsa Action Committee" (KAC) recently constituted to continue opposition of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect on Thursday, condemned the Haryana government’s decision to beef up Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s personal security cover to the Z-plus category and vowed "to take the fight to its logical conclusion".

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh, accused of blasphemy, was on Wednesday provided with Z plus security cover in view of the threat perception to his life. "We have decided to provide him with the Z plus security cover in view of the threats to eliminate him," Haryana's Additional DGP (CID) P V Rathee said.

SC declines to entertain petitions on Dera row

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain petitions relating to the controversy of Dera Sacha Sauda saying the Punjab and Haryana High Court was already monitoring the matter. A Bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice D K Jain said since the High Court is already monitoring the matter, we are not inclined to interfere into it.

The Jathedar of Akal Takhat Joginder Singh Vedanti is adamant that the state government must close down all the deras within the state in next seven days or face the consequences.
