The former Lankan coach Dav Whatmore, who was previously considered for the post of coach for the Indian team, has now been offered the post of Director Operations at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Ravi Shastri, the new NCA Chairman is in touch with Whatmore.

Naseem Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that the new coach for the national team will be named on July 16.
Australian, Dav Whatmore is the favourite for the post of Pakistan coach while fellow Australians Geoff Lawson and Richard Done are also in the race to be the coach of the Pakistan team.

The former Sri Lankan skipper, Arjuna Ranatunga, in a meeting with Pakistan manager-cum-coach Talat Ali has advised the Pakistani team against selecting Dav Whatmore as the coach. Whatmore, was the Sri Lankan coach, during Ranatunga's tenure as skipper, when Sri Lanka won their first world cup in 1996.

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq gave his approval for Dav Whatmore to be appointed coach of the national team saying :"He has a lot of experience and a strong coaching background like Bob [Woolmer] did. He appears most likely to be selected as coach".

Australian Dav Whatmore has emerged as the top contender to take over the coaching position with the Pakistan cricket team after he met with PCB Chairman Naseem Ashraf in Islamabad. Prior to Whatmore, his compatriots Geoff Lawson and Richard Done were also interviewed for the job by Board officials earlier this week.

Dav Whatmore who was keen on coaching the Indian cricket team, snubbed initial overtures from the Pakistan Cricket Board in the hope that he would get the coveted coaching position with the Indian team after the World Cup. However, having got a raw deal from the BCCI, Whatmore is now keen to coach the Pakistan team. On reaching Pakistan, he praised the potential of the Pakistani players.

After over 70 days of uncertainty, during which Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore was tipped to take over as successor to Greg Chappell, the BCCI's search for a new coach is likely to end on Saturday. Former England spinner John Embury and ex-South Africa coach Graham Ford arrived in India early on Saturday to make their presentations on coaching the Indian team.

Just when everyone thought India's next coach would be selected on June 4, the BCCI, true to form, surprised everyone by announcing two new, relatively unknown names, as candidates for the post. On the face of it, Dav Whatmore looked like the most suitable candidate, but apparently Graham Ford and John Emburey bring more to the table.
