Madhani released on bail : Coimbatore Serial Blasts

Abdul Nasser Madhani, who had five charges against his name, including criminal conspiracy to trigger the Coimbatore serial blasts, has been absolved from all the five charges and has been released on bail by the Sessions Court. Madhani, was released from the central prison, where he was lodged for the last nine and half years.

The chairman of the Kerala-based People's Democratic Party, Abdul Nasser Madhani was acquitted in five charges including the conspiracy to trigger serial blasts in Coimbatore on Feb 14, 1998. Also the Al Umma founder and the prime accused S A Basha, was acquitted of four of the six charges. Basha was convicted of criminal conspiracy and creating communal tension.

Nine years after the dreaded blasts which rocked Coimbatore, a special court will commence pronouncing its verdict on the 166 accused from Wednesday. 58 people were killed and over 200 were injured in the blasts that took place at 12 different places in the city on February 14, 1998.

A person wanted in connection with the 1998 serial blasts in Coimbatore has been arrested, after 9 long years. Maideen was one of the five accused who were at large, since the blasts took place killing 58 and injuring 250 people.
