'Climate change will trigger hunger in India' : UN agency

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has warned against the effects of climate change in India. According to the UN agency, climate change is likely to trigger a "risk of hunger" in India by affecting cereal production by as much as 18 per cent because of floods and droughts.

Indian malls are not eco-friendly: Pachauri

Rajendra K Pachauri, chief of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that the shopping malls that are mushrooming in Indian cities and towns are 'environmentally disastrous'. Pachauri further added that India is not taking the threat posed by climate change seriously although there is an increasing awareness of its consequences amongst the citizens.

Google and Intel Spearhead Green-Computing Initiative

Computers have saved muscle and mental power for years, and now Google and Intel have launched an initiative to save electricity as well. The new plan, called the Climate Savers Computing Initiative, also includes Dell, EDS, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), HP , IBM, Lenovo, Microsoft , PG&E, World Wildlife Fund, and more than 25 other businesses and organizations.
