The Pakistani Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ordered the release of at least 100 opposition workers who were arrested to stop protests against the President Pervez Musharraf. The workers were seized after vowing to hold demonstrations against Musharraf's plans to be re-elected as president for another five years in a poll on October 6.

In a bid to provide relief to scores of petitioners the Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar disposed of 328 cases and pronounced 26 judgments in nearly two months on various issues such as land acquisition matters, writ petitions, special reference matters, PILs, arbitration matters, first appeals and full bench matters.
