The last rites of former PM Chandra Shekhar were performed by his sons Pankaj and Neeraj at Ekta Sthal as his mortal remains were consigned to the flames with full state honours amidst chanting of Vedic hymns on the banks of the Yamuna on Monday. Vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other leaders marked their presence.

The former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, who died in New Delhi on Sunday, will be cremated will full state honours on the banks of the Yamuna in New Delhi on Monday.The funeral will take place at 5 pm at Ekta Sthal near the 'samadhis' of former Presidents Giani Zail Singh, Shankar Dayal Sharma and K R Narayanan.

The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, condoled the death of former prime minister Chandra Shekhar on behalf of the nation to the breaved family and declared state mourning for seven days as a mark of respect to the departed leader. Also former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee paid glowing tributes to Chandra Shekhar.

The former Indian Prime Minister, Chandra Shekhar died in New Delhi on Sunday after a prolonged illness. He was 80. Chandra Shekhar, who was suffering from multiple myloma, passed away at the Apollo Hospital in New Delhi where he was admitted since the last three months.
