The grounding off the Blueline buses by the government in Delhi, has added to the woes of commuters. Most of the Blueline buses failed to get the mandatory clearance from the government with just about 1000 out of 4500 being deemed fit to operate.

Delhi's commuters will experience a harrowing time commuting to work on Monday, after the government has grounded more than 3500 Blueline buses. In a bid to curb the number of accidents taking place, the buses have been banned from plying until they comply with the government's safety measures. So far, out of a fleet of 4,500 Blueline buses sent for safety checks, just 712 have made the cut.

The Blueline buses have been involved in seven deaths and 11 accidents this month itself thus forcing the Delhi government to take cognizance of the menace posed by the buses. The Government has called for all the 5000 buses to be grounded this weekend, so that the government can carry out checks with regard to the driver's details as well as inspect the buses for speed governors.

After a spate of accidents involving Blueline buses in the capital and the ensuing public outcry the Delhi government has decided to keep the killer buses off Delhi roads for two days. The buses will not ply on buses on Saturday and Sunday, the Government has ordered the bus operators to install speed regulators in the buses within these two days in order to prevent over speeding.

The toll of fatal accidents involving Delhi's privately operated Blueline buses has reached 63 this year, with another person being crushed to death under the wheels of a Blueline bus. Inspite of repeated assurances by the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit of phasing out the rogue buses, the casualties continue to go up everyday.
