The BJP president Rajnath Singh charged the government with double standards and said that the UPA government at the centre should "disassociate" itself from DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi's anti-Ram remarks and ask him to withdraw them. Singh also said that the government was encouraging "blasphemy".

MIM issues death threats against Nasreen

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has threatened to behead Taslima Nasreen, if she were to ever return to the city of Hyderabad. The controversial Bangladeshi author was attacked by the legislators and cadres of the MIM earlier. The MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi claimed that anyone who commits blasphemy deserved to be beheaded.

Enraged by the UK's decision to knight controversial India-born author Salman Rushdie whose work has infuriated Muslims across the world, the Speaker of Pakistan's Punjab provincial assembly, Afzal Sahi,said that any person committing blasphemy against the Holy Prophet was liable to be killed and that he would definitely kill the blasphemer if he came across him today.

Iran complains to British ambassador on Rushdie's knighthood

The Iran Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador to complain over Britain's decision to grant a knighthood to controversial Indian-born author Salman Rushdie, who was accused of blasphemy by Iran's former supreme leader for his book "The Satanic Verses,".
