The roadside booksellers of Flora Fountain, who have helped students and bibliophiles, are determined to get their space back.
In May 2005, around 25 booksellers in the Fort area were shown the door by the municipal corporation after Veer Nariman Road, where the stalls sat, was declared as a no-hawking zone. Following a public outcry, they were relocated to a space nearby.

MUMBAI; While the rest of the country stubs it out, at least in public, from October 2, in Mumbai you can carry on smoking. That’s because the BMC, which is supposed to implement the smoking ban, has thrown up its hands.
“We simply cannot do it with the current infrastructure and manpower,” says civic health executive officer Jayaraj Thanekar.

Well not exactly a million but the BMC is planning to import bomb-proof dustbins, each costing Rs 72,000! Delhi is eyeing see-through bins for waste disposal and am sure they too won't come cheap.

Although the BMC has made it mandatory for contractors to use 'carbon core' technology to cover potholes, they seem to pay no heed. As a result, potholes in the city have increased by more than 1,500 over the last fortnight.

The Caste Verification Committee has found 14 corporators of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) guilty of submitting bogus (and hence invalid) caste certificates, thus getting corporators from all parties, especially the Shiv Sena, in big trouble. If the axe falls on the Sena corporators, who stand disqualified, the Mayorship of Shubha Raul could be in jeopardy.
