The Acropolis in Athens and Mexico's Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza are among the leaders in a competition to choose the New Seven Wonders of the World, the organisers said on Thursday. The competition ends in a month's time. The winners will be chosen through a global online and phone vote, organisers of the New 7 Wonders of the World (www.new7wonders.com) competition said.

A former United Nations procurement official was on Thursday convicted of charges of helping a friend secure $100 million in UN contracts in exchange for a huge discount on two luxury Manhattan apartments and cash.Sanjaya Bahel,the official in question,who is from India, had maintained his innocence since his November arrest.

Big Brother contestant ousted for racist slur

A contestant on the latest series of Britain's Big Brother television show, was shown the door for her racist comments to another contestant. Student Emily Parr, 19, was removed from the house after she was heard saying: "Are you pushing it out, you nigger?" to black contestant Charley Uchea, 21, Channel 4 said in a statement.

In a recent development, the excise department has recommended that the permissible drinking age in Delhi should be brought down from 25 to 21. Even if the official age for alcohol consumption had been made 21, not many would care.
