Puri-Hatia Express derails in Orissa

A passenger train travelling from Puri to Hatia in Jharkhand derailed in Orissa's Sambalpur district, on Wednesday, however no one was injured in the incident. The stranded passengers were taken by bus to the Sambalpur railway station from where they will be sent on a special train to their destination.

The CBI has written a letter to it's Pakistan counterparts, the Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) to verify the reports regarding the detention of Indian fugitive and underworld Don, Dawood Ibrahim by authorities there. There have been reports stating that Dawood has been injured in a scuffle in Karachi.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi announced that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will make a suo motu statement on the Indo-US civil nuclear deal in Parliament on August 13. The announcement came after the goverenment's plans of evolving a consensus on the nuclear deal ran into rough weather with the left allies rejecting it.

Haneef's visa plea hearing adjourned

The Australian Federal Court has adjourned the hearing on an appeal by Indian doctor Mohammed Haneef against cancellation of his work visa. The adjournement came after the court heard the lawyers' argument that the decision to revoke the document was legally flawed.

Heavy rains in the state of Gujarat have inundated several areas in Junagadh Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Jamangar districts. Seven persons died and thousands were left homeless due to the incessant rainfall. The army was called it for rescue work in the flood-hit coastal town of Veraval in Junagdh district.

Sanjay Dutt's petition seeking interim bail will be heard by the Supreme Court on Friday. Yesterday, Dutt had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging his conviction by the TADA court, which had sentenced him to six years rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act.
